My Practice & Philosophy

I was a big firm litigator for ten years before establishing my own firm in 2014 to handle a mix of business litigation and business law.

In litigation, my approach is to try to understand and diagnose the core of the dispute early on and then build a strategy around that and my client's needs and objectives.  Litigation is very expensive and time consuming for all parties involved.  I am always searching for areas of compromise between the parties, while aggressively yet efficiently pursuing my client's position.  Sometimes, despite everyone's efforts, disputes must go to litigation or all the way to trial.  Therefore, I prepare cases for trial, and tenaciously try cases if necessary.

I have tried numerous cases to juries, judges and in arbitration.

In business law, I bring a unique perspective for several reasons.  I draw on my litigation experience to try to anticipate where the landmines are and to try to head off disputes and other problems.  As the owner of a co-working space and a board member of the local chamber of commerce, I am also frequently interacting with small and mid-sized businesses, in the trenches with them on their daily legal needs as well as advising on larger strategic legal issues.  I will frequently serve as part time general counsel for clients.

All of this allows me to deliver practical and actionable legal advice for businesses.

A significant portion of my interests and work relates to real estate and construction issues.  I am the vice president of the local historical society and am passionate about architecture and urban history and panning. I have also been an owner or partner in several real estate developments. I also enjoy helping communities and stakeholders resolve land use disputes for the sake of improving our shared places.
